Free Ballerina Bunny Crochet Pattern: Meet Lola (2 Dress Styles)

To support my free patterns, this post includes affiliate links for materials I love. Thank you for your support! 💖

If you’ve been searching for a graceful and sweet handmade gift, this free ballerina bunny crochet pattern is exactly what you need. Meet Lola, a delicate little rabbit who is always ready for center stage. Whether you are making a special toy for a dance recital or a charming addition to a nursery, Lola’s elegant style makes her a standout project.

What makes this free ballerina bunny crochet pattern truly special is that it offers two distinct looks in one. I have included instructions for two different tutu styles: a classic, textured crochet skirt and a whimsical, airy tulle dress. Lola stands approximately 9.5 inches (24 cm) tall, the perfect size for little hands to hold during a pirouette.

As an intermediate-level project, this pattern uses basic amigurumi techniques with a few stylish twists. If you enjoy making themed animals, you might also want to check out my other designs, like the Daisy Easter Bunny, but for today, let’s focus on bringing this elegant ballerina to life!

New to amigurumi? Don’t let the “intermediate” label hold you back! If you are a beginner but fell in love with Lola, I’ve got you covered. You can sharpen your skills by visiting my guide on how to crochet basic stitches and familiarizing yourself with common crochet abbreviations used in this pattern. For a more in-depth look at getting started, my Amigurumi for Beginners post will give you all the confidence you need to start your first stitch. With a little patience, you’ll have your own ballerina bunny ready in no time!

Pattern Details:

  • Difficulty level: Intermediate
  • Finished size: Approximately 9.5 inches (24 cm)
  • Construction: Most of the toy is worked in continuous circles (amigurumi style), while the crown is worked in rows.

Materials List:

Before we dive into the stitches, let’s make sure you have everything ready for Lola. Whether you are making the classic crochet dress or the tulle tutu version, here is what you will need:

  • Yarn: I use a 100% cotton yarn from my local store. The best match and my top recommendation for this pattern is Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK.
    • For the sparkly details, I used a metallic viscose thread. A great international alternative available on LoveCrafts is DMC Diamant.
  • For the Tulle Version: Two types of tulle (dotted and plain), dimensions 30 x 8 inches (75 x 20 cm).
  • Hook: I used a 2mm hook. I highly recommend Clover Amour Hooks for the best experience.
  • Tools & Supplies:
    • Fiberfill, 8mm safety eyes, scissors, and a tapestry needle.
    • Optional: Stitch markers and a tiny button for the dress.
    • Find all these essentials here: Crochet Supplies & Accessories.

Tulle Ballerina Dress

For this dress, I used two types of tulle (dotted and plain), dimensions 30 x 8 inches (75 x 20 cm).

Preparing the Skirt:

  • Place one tulle piece over the other and fold them in half lengthwise to get a piece approximately 30 x 4 inches (75 x 10 cm).
  • Pleat (bend) the tulle as shown in the picture.
  • Use a needle to pierce through the pleats to hold them in place.
  • Using a smaller hook (I used 1.5mm), make 1 sc with yarn through the tulle.
  • Repeat this process until you have a total of 30 sc. Slip stitch to the first stitch to join in a circle.

Note: If you end up with a few stitches more or less, don’t worry. Just work one more round and use increases or decreases to reach exactly 30 stitches.

Working the Bodice:

  • Round 1-2: 30 sc, sl st to join = [30]
  • Row 3: ch 1, (3 sc, dec) x 6, ch 1, turn = [24]
  • Row 4-5: 24 sc, ch 1, turn = [24]
  • Row 6: 4 sc, skip next 4 sc, ch 10 (armhole), 8 sc, skip next 4 sc, ch 10 (armhole), 4 sc, ch 2, turn
  • Row 7: (1 dc, dec dc, 1 dc), 5 x dec dc, (1 dc, dec dc, 1 dc) x 2, 5 x dec dc, (1 dc, dec dc, 1 dc)

Finishing: Sew a button to one side of the back opening. Attach yarn to the opposite side and create a small loop for the button. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Crown

With white yarn

  • Ch 20, sl st to the first chain to join in a circle.
  • Round 1: ch 1, 20 sc, sl st to join = [20]
  • Round 2: ch 1, 20 hdc, sl st to join = [20]
  • Round 3: ch 1, (skip 1 st, 6 dc in the same stitch, skip 1 st, sl st) x 5
    Switch to gold yarn
  • Round 4: (3 sc, ch 3, sl st in the 3rd stitch from hook, 3 sc, skip 1 st) x 5, sl st to join.
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Bow

  • Ch 86
  • Row 1: sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 67 sl st, 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 2 tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, sl st.
    Fasten off.

To finish, wrap the bow around the bunny’s head and tie it in a neat knot.

Important Safety Note: While crochet toys are wonderful for little ones, safety is our top priority. When making toys for babies or toddlers:

  • Eyes: I highly recommend embroidering the eyes with black yarn instead of using plastic safety eyes, which can become a choking hazard.
  • Small Parts: Ensure all limbs and accessories (like bows or hats) are sewn extra securely with multiple passes of yarn.
  • Supervision: Never leave a baby unattended with any handmade toy. Regularly check the toy for any loose threads or wear and tear.

Since this pattern is free, please help me keep it that way by not taking screenshots. Keeping the page open while you work supports my studio! Happy crocheting!✨
