Need Help with the Details?
If you find some parts of this pattern a bit tricky, I’ve got you covered with detailed resources right here on the blog! You will notice that for Punkie, I use the SC YU (Yarn Under) technique to get those nice, tight stitches. You can find a full explanation and a video tutorial for this in my How to Crochet Basic Stitches post. Additionally, for his signature mohawk, I used the I-cord technique. If you want to master that sturdy, professional finish, you can find the step-by-step instructions in my Amigurumi Advanced Techniques post.
Why You’ll Love This Pattern
This project is perfect for using up those leftover yarn ends that are too small for a full doll but too pretty to throw away. Plus, the versatility of the design means you can make a whole squad of monsters for different purposes.
Tip: If you choose the pencil topper version, the pattern includes a clever “inner pocket” technique to make sure Punkie sits securely on your favorite pen or pencil!

Mohawk / Hair
The mohawk consists of 10 strands sewn to the top of the head in two columns of five.
- Option 1 (Two-Strand Cord): Make 10 cords, each 10 stitches long. This technique uses two separate threads of yarn to create a round, sturdy cord.
- Tip: If you are unfamiliar with this technique, you can find a quick tutorial on my YouTube channel @emmasdollsstudio.
- Option 2 (Simple Alternative): If you prefer a simpler version, crochet 10 strands: Ch 11, starting from the second ch from hook: 10 sl st.
Assembly: Sew the strands to the top of the head in two parallel rows (5 strands per row) to create a messy, textured mohawk.
